HEIR OF THE ISLANDS

Hip-hop x Hawaii

Storytelling in the tradition of the Pacific Islands through Hip-Hop music. Honolulu bred emcee and Hawaii’s 2016 Bacardi Iron MC, Island Heir, paints a picture of the blessings of life in Hawaii, the power of positivity, and the history of his people. He also touches upon subjects such as inequality, fighting against stereotypes, expanding the mind beyond popular thought, preserving the culture of Hip-Hop and the complexities of relationships.

Raised by musicians, Island Heir was exposed to countless forms of musical genres. Some of the more influential ones being traditional Hawaiian & Samoan music, Soul, Funk, Reggae & R&B. Then one day as a young boy, he was introduced to Hip-Hop. From that point on the elements of the culture of Hip-Hop became ingrained in his being. Some of the Hip-Hop artists that had a profound impact on Island Heir’s music were A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Jurassic 5, De La Soul, People Under the Stairs, The Roots and Nas.

Island Heir's first single 'Cherish' featuring fellow Hawaii artist Izik is now available on iTunes, Google Play and most other platforms where music is sold. The song, produced by Daniel Sauls, tells of a young man desperately searching for the girl he has dreamed of his whole life and the joy he feels to find someone he chooses to cherish.

The first full project available from Island Heir is the 2016 released EP, 'Heir of the Islands, Vol.1.' The EP was kicked off by the single and music video 'The Board Riders' Anthem'' which featured fellow Hawaii emcees Glisten, Homestead and Ryme Da Old Man. The single describes the thrill of wave riding, the beauty of Hawaii’s shores, the local Hip-Hop scene, and more.

Though this effort marks Island Heir's first solo venture, he also spent several years on Hawaii's music scene as a founding member of The Soul Pacific who opened for acts such as The Visionaries, The Procussions, Propaganda and Blue Scholars. The Soul Pacific was known for high energy shows that paid tribute to the golden era of Hip-hop and shared various elements of the Polynesian cultures while allowing the audience many opportunities to participate throughout the set.  Island Heir's album contains cameos from fellow Soul Pacific members Homestead and DJ Mad as well as several other Hawaii based artists. Songs from the Soul Pacific can be downloaded from their Soundcloud profile.

As “Heir of the Islands, Vol. 1” progresses the efforts of The Soul Pacific, the album also debuts the next phase of Island Heir's music - Sons of Wakea. The track 'Ku'uipo features Hawaii emcee Glisten who is the other half of the Sons of Wakea group. Ku'uipo is also produced by powerhouse team of producers Metisunz who will be providing the production for the entire SoW album.
